In December 2020, Erdgasspeicher Peissen GmbH completed the construction of an underground fire water reservoir in the Gnetsch cavern field. The reservoir with a storage volume of 360m³ water is located north of the district road K2104 and serves to increase the safety in the Gnetsch cavern field. In case of a fire, the reservoir offers the possibility to fill three fire engines with extinguishing water at the same time. A service water pipe already existing on site ensures the continuous replenishment of the reservoir.
The installation of the fire water reservoir took place from October 2020 in connection with the construction of the cavern connection line KSL 23, which will connect four additional gas storage caverns to the aboveground process plant of the natural gas storage UGS Katharina in Peissen. Despite restrictions due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, the fire water reservoir was completed on time and within budget.
